Working for Christ

Daily Bible Reading – Colossians 1-4

Today’s Key Passage – Colossians 3:23-24

God has given us all work to do.  We have all been placed in specific places by God’s perfect will.  He has given us tasks and asked us to complete them.  For some, this may be pastoring a church or leading a mission trip.  For others, this may be serving in a church or a community.  None of this work is any more or less important than the rest – it is all work designed by God to advance His Kingdom.  When we do our work, it is easy to get burned out.  We can get tired and bored, and we may even think of quitting.  Paul’s words to the church in Colosse encouraged the believers there to work as if they were working for the Lord.  What if we did that?

What if we went to our jobs and worked as if God was our supervisor?  Would we put more into our work?  What if we served our church or the community as if we were serving God instead of other people?  Would it change our attitudes toward the work?  The secret to serving others – the secret to being unselfish with our time, money, and talents – is to think of everything we do as serving God.  If we are merely working for men, we will surely not last very long.  If, however, we are working for God, he will sustain us.  He will provide us the strength to carry on in our work and our efforts.  He will provide everything that we need right when we need it.

There have been times in the past when I thought about quitting this blog.  Just like everyone else, there are many things constantly going on and a lot of duties to attend to and sometimes finding the time and the energy to maintain this blog daily can be difficult.  There are times when I have been discouraged by soft readership or a lack of feedback when comments, likes, and shares of this blog fall off.  Every time I have started to feel this way, I remember why I started doing this in the first place.  I started this blog because I felt God leading me in this direction.  I started this blog to bring Him glory every day.  While I do not think this blog is the final destination that God is leading me to, I do believe that He is using this tool to build me for the next level of service for Him.  Every time I have felt like quitting, I have reminded myself that I am working for Jesus Christ.  He is my boss.  He is in charge.  This mindset makes me want to work harder.  It makes me want to know more and share more.  It makes me want to serve, and I think that is the whole point.
